The lifter bit is associated with uprights (called lifter uprights) which pass through the two rings perpendicularly. These uprights are linked to the bridle and act directly on the headstall. This bit can therefore be used with 4 reins. The snaffle reins will have a lifting effect and the gag reins attached to the special uprights will have a lowering effect.
